If you’ve ever been injured (and many of you can relate), it may take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks to recover from your injury (generally speaking).
Did you know that running with poor form (bio-mechanics) or lack of proper training can increase your risk to injury by 7%? This is why it’s vital to seek proper training with your coach, even if you meet with your coach once or twice a month, it’s crucial for your coach to see your gait, technique, foot-turnover, etc, to help you with form needed which will further excel your running goals.
Running / training for an endurance race, takes a toll on your body, even your immune system. How many times have you trained with moderation for 30 to 45 minutes?
Congratulations, you stimulated your immune system!
However, the demands of running longer distances temporally weaken your immune system.
Why?
Because during your intensity long runs (or races) your body pumps out your cortisol hormone, this suppresses the immune function in large amounts.
Therefore, if you’re looking to start training for your first race or returning from an injury, or getting back to basics from taking a sabbatical from training, insure you seek guidance from your healthcare provider, let them know your plans for your upcoming training season or goals you want to achieve in your health and fitness.
